Twilight, the story

For those who don't know what the story of Twilight is about, here's one of the better synopsis of the plot. It's written by Summit Entertainment, the movie studio making the film franchise.

Bella Swan has always been a little bit different. Never one to run with the crowd, Bella never cared about fitting in with the trendy, plastic girls at her Phoenix, Arizona high school. When her mother remarried and Bella chooses to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she didn't expect much of anything to change. But things do change when she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen. For Edward is nothing like any boy she's ever met. He's nothing like anyone she's ever met, period. He's intelligent and witty, and he seems to see straight into her soul. In no time at all, they are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance - unorthodox because Edward really isn't like the other boys. He can run faster than a mountain lion. He can stop a moving car with his bare hands. Oh, and he hasn't aged since 1918. Like all vampires, he's immortal. That's right - vampire. But he doesn't have fangs - that's just in the movies. And he doesn't drink human blood, though Edward and his family are unique among vampires in that lifestyle choice. To Edward, Bella is that thing he has waited 90 years for - a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. Somehow or other, they will have to manage their unmanageable love. But when unexpected visitors come to town and realize that there is a human among them Edward must fight to save Bella? A modern, visual, and visceral Romeo and Juliet story of the ultimate forbidden love affair - between vampire and mortal. Written by http://www.summit-ent.com/

Stephenie Meyer's official website

Friends over this Christmas have asked me what is it about Twilight, the movie that has attracted me so much to it. Well, aside from the interesting characters of Edward and Bella and a few others, I also really like....the cinematography, the music soundtrack (which the casts had a say in. i.e Kirsten Stewart who played Bella in the movie chose the song they danced to at the gazebo at the prom), the baseball scene (with that rocking Muse song, Super Massive Black Hole which I love running to), Robin Pattinson's rather charming crooked smile, the blossom of first love which is really sexy because they have to hold themselves in check:) , the teenage angst that bought me back to my high school days, and director's Catherine Hardwicke's rock n' roll treatment of the bad vampires - James, Laurent and Victoria, I also really admire the author Stephenie Meyer's climb to success.

Here you have a housewife and mum (or mom for the North Americans reading this) who had a dream about these two star crossed lovers/characters in a meadow, and woke up to write a successful book in 6 months. Stephenie Meyer is a legend! And what is so cool about it all was she wrote the story for herself. She's definitely a romantic. I like!:)

Happy reading!

Edward & Bella Vanity Fair photo shoot

Edward and Bella (or rather Robert Pattinson and Kirsten Stewart) were featured in a Vanity Fair photo shoot recently. I am not sure what issue it was, would like to have bought a copy, but it may have come and gone.

Anyway, I found this glam pic from the magazine photo shoot and I thought it might be interesting to contrast it to the meadow scene (from where the Vanity Fair pic took its inspiration obviously)where they were both just lying gazing at each other.

I loved the intensity of the meadow scene where Edward asked Bella to "Say it!" and she spat out "Vampire", but thought that it was a little too rushed. Like Bella was so rushed to tell Edward how she truly feels about him. She exposed it too quickly. It should have been strung out a little bit more, as it was in the book apparently. I guess it is a challenge when you have about 2 hours to adapt a story to movie. A few more weeks and I will have access to all the 4 books, hopefully!

Anyway, enjoy the pics.

Why I have created this blog

A little less than a week ago, I started noticing that all of a sudden, people were starting to make a lot of noise about a movie regarding a girl falling in love with a vampire called TWILIGHT. I mean the buzz about Twilight was just everywhere in Singapore. On websites, blogs, magazines and then on the radio. And all the images that the noise carried with it had one thing in common, a really hot and I mean HAWT looking guy as the male lead, looking pale and glowing and just gorgeous. A google minute away later and I realised it was of an actor by the name of Robert Pattinson, and that he was going to play Edward Cullen in Twilight...and the rest as they say is history. I was hooked.

And then, before I could suggest telling my friend Hj about seeing the movie, she suggested it to me, in between my kids swimming classes. "Steph is keen to see it as well.." she had said, and so it was just a matter of us girls (all mothers in their mid 30s) finding the right night, when we can rely on our husbands to babysit so we girls can go off to see the romantic vampire movie everyone was talking about.

And wow, that angsty movie sure has turned my world upside down! Since seeing Twilight on Dec 19, I came away completely head over heels in love with Edward Cullen and have gone again to see it with another group of friends, also wives and mothers, on Dec 21. This time, I bought my husband along whom I think liked it, but does not quite get my obsession for it. A day after my second viewing, I had the opportunity to go to the bookshop and the first thing I did was to ask for the 4 book box set. At S$130, it was a little too much for what I wanted to spend, although am sure it is worth every cent, but I hesitated and lo behold, that last box set was quickly snapped up by another loitering 30 plus year old, who looked suspiciously like a housewife or a working mum on a career break/ holiday like myself.

Having 'lost' the box set and learning that a new batch will only be delivered to the bookstore in a few week's time, I slinked off home, depressed and disappointed only to brighten up when I logged on-line to the movie website, ignoring my children for a couple of hours, and even forgetting to eat as I devoured with relish all the latest interviews, reviews and write ups about the movie and the cast, including of course the adorable Robert Pattinson who played the heartbreakingly handsome and romantic Edward Cullen in the movie.

Today, during a kids playdate I had arranged with Tammy and her little boy, my eyes lit up when Tammy bought up the conversation about Twilight. She totally was into it too, another intelligent, fun yet dignified woman like many of my friends are, and I was left thinking... wow, I am not so weird after all to be so drawn to this movie at my age. I mentioned to Tammy about being so pulled into the Forks world that amazing author Stephenie Meyer has created for us, that am thinking about setting up some kind of a fansite, even just for my own amusement. Tammy then suggested perhaps something catering for housewives, and so Tammy, et voila!:) Thanks for the idea and here's the first post on this blog. Not much as yet I know, but give me until after Christmas and we shall post more material. I am not sure what is possible on Blogspot; I might have outgrown it or have not figured out blogspots full offerings as yet, but give me some time and I will pack this place with photos and pictures and hopefully some interesting links and posts about the movie and the characters of the Twilight series.

So there you have it folks... my first fansite for a movie and a book series ever, and a very special British actor that is Robert Pattinson. I have named this blog "Housewives for Twilight" in honour of the group of people whom I have set this up for. My friends. For those who have stumbled on this blog, even if you are not a housewife, but you are a wife and or a mother and you love Twilight the movie and are going to,have already started or have thought about reading the books, a warm welcome!
